In 1990, at the tender age of 22, New York City native Alexis Bittar launched his eponymous costume jewelry label from his modest East Village apartment. It didnt take long before the buzz about Bittars ingenious, hand-carved, gilded acrylic creations reached the Guggenheim Museum and Henri Bendel. By 1999, Bittar was designing couture jewelry for Burberry — reinterpreting the brands signature plaid in Lucite.
